I think it's an extinction event, like the way a filament brightens just before it winks out. An aging element in a still mostly white, privileged society, suffering a bit of culture shock from a flurry of upheavals and not fully understanding how we avoided economic collapse (a failing of communication of the previous administration, sadly) met a moment when just enough progressive minded Americans were lulled into failing their activist roots in the wake of Obama and a sense of solid sea change. It's been a costly lull, given the recent impact on the Court. That makes the next election crucial in a number of ways, but if that wake up call, where an actual minority in the nation is controlling policy, isn't enough to rally troops then we'll just have to wait on attrition and spend a couple of decades undoing the damage.

Also, I think that sort of declaration entitles me to call you a silly bastard at least twice without recourse, or a feckless imbecile once with only a rude hand gesture in answering...I've misplaced my Robert's at present, but I believe I'm recalling correctly. oly:

My next step is going to be to transfer his stoning photo that was actually from a movie set (did he not see the woman holding the red coloring bottle?) but don't be surprised to see my post removed (like one of mine was yesterday), or I'll be blocked from the thread (I've been blocked from 5 or 6 now), or I'll get another infraction.

It's been an education but that education needs a nausea antidote.

Thanks rex and back at you in your work about here in general and of late...the irrationality and willful misdirection of Confederate apologists (and those who play at it to advance a state's rights agenda) never ceases to amaze or disappoint me. One unfortunate consequence of the technological advance in our time is that any idiot or parrot with a terminal can regurgitate that nonsense so often it begins to take on a semblance of authority, if only or largely to those similarly challenged.

Regarding the proposed state dept. cuts, Lindsay Graham said they're DOA, they're not going to happen, that "taking soft power off the table" would be a "disaster."

I think that's a big part of the puzzle. Nothing is going to last without a permanent political solution. I'm really glad the Obama administration pushed the Maliki government out. They were a big part of the problem. Trump's proposed cuts to the State department could make this way harder than it used to be, although they definitely fit a certain militaristic mentality, but it's almost exactly the wrong move, and it's more than a little galling from a party that spent so much time obsessing about Benghazi.
